Risks, rights, values and ethics: Frontline Briefing (2018)
Most adults make frequent decisions about the degrees of risk they wish to tolerate in different aspects of their lives. Decisions such as choosing to sign a rental contract for a property, taking out a bank loan, changing jobs, getting into a car or on to a plane, engaging in a contact sport, smoking, or starting a sexual relationship with a new partner all involve risk - there is a degree of uncertainty about the outcome, and something could go wrong.
Most of the time, adults weigh up the potential positive and negative outcomes, seek advice or support if appropriate, and make a decision. Some decisions may be made without much conscious thought at all.
